Thank you for an instructive video. I particularly liked the comedy bits (eating the ingredients and losing count after four :-). I'll be trying this in my house pretty soon.
Hi thanks for upload. Is the fromage blanc sour milk? Why do you add this. You have a beautiful property good luck with the work. By the way is the music Ivor Cutler?
Hello Robert, yes the music is Ivor Cutler ... unfortunately I lost the property in a divorce and this video from my old life is too painful to comment on !!!
The sour milk or better known as casein is a natural binder, it was used by artist in the past mixed directly with pigment, the chaux or lime makes it more hard wearing. You should always wear a mask and gloves when mixing lime. It is a lovely medium to work with. Good luck.
+Gwen Meyer. Am following several lines on chalk based paints myself. Haven't got far with this as yet although the question of whether he's using agricultural or slaked lime is immediately apparent, probably the latter. I believe the "fromage blanc" adds a degree of water resistance to the lime wash. I have previously added red oxide to lime wash and got a really intense pink colour which applied just as well as straight lime wash. And yes, it will apply just as well to any sort of masonry. I ended up achieving a really beautiful low sheen effect by mixing straight red oxide to PVA, adding water till I got a paintable consistency. I used this to cover masonry surrounding a fireplace (built in slow combustion stove, not naked flame) which some prick had foolishly painted. The surface was really flakey up close and there was no question of removing anything other than the loosest paint. The resulting finish stood without damage for several winters before I sold the place. If wiped with a damp rag though, red did come off. But it was totally not powdery. Good luck.
Forgot to add, I tried my pink mix to the fireplace first, but it was so intense that I had to find a better solution. Don't know whether the pink lime wash helped the oxide/PVA mix stick better or not, but can state that when applying lime wash over previously painted surfaces, results have varied from no problem at all to total disaster.
@@vitabricksnailslime8273 try bulls blood it starts Suffolk pink and ends up Suffolk Red as the blood iron oxidises/ rusts and salt as well to slow and improve curing
I think you should have left the banana in its guard for a day at least and jumped around the garden with it to see how well it faired, After all it's all about bananas on the go and not a quick in and out affair.

fascinating! what does the fromage blanc actually do in that mix? Can I add oxide as color? and why cant I use it on regular masonry wall?
